A Whole Host of Byrne

Amazing. An honestly brilliant night - one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Pure dead brilliant!

Helped in no small measure by the brilliance of David Byrne and his entourage of idiosynchrasies personified - I believe if he wanted to be anyone or anything on the night of his performance, then he created 'them' - his 3 dancers, his 3 singers, his musicians, his costumes, his choreography. It was undoubtedly a celebration of self, one's ideas and desires, performed to a very appreciative and gratefully reciprocative audience. Many folks mouthed lyrics that had particular meaning for them, most of the audience were out of their seats clapping and dancing, and on more than one occasion during the performance - starting with Mr. Byrne merely coming on stage - he got standing ovations all round.

In other gigs I've been transported, emotionally blown about, captivated, inspired, physically moved, but in this I was all of the above plus inspired purely to remember the fun part of what it is to be an artist and aim to do something different. 'Get to the Point Davie!'

I'm gushing now, I'm going to stop. But Mr Byrne is a wee genius so he is. I bet his h-yowge extended family were very proud.

Art Auction This Saturday 21st March!!

Fantastic art auction for charity Yorkhill this Saturday - bring your big fat wallets!!
I've donated that infamous drawing of those 2 braw Proclaimers chappies that got me on STV news, and which the Proclaimers then used on their merchandise. This particular drawing of Craig and Charlie was drawn live of them during their gig on Arran in 2006, along with a drawing of the whole band, plus one of their support band Ten Storeys High. Was a brilliant night, and I was lucky enough to get to see them again in Fort William (quite close to my old home!) which was another joyous occasion!

For a bit more on the charity event this following excerpt is from highly intriguing and quirky photographer Alex Boyd who's submitted one of his brilliant photos for the auction:
Yorkhill Childrens' Foundation Y.C.F make a big difference to the lives of kids who have to stay in Hospital in Glasgow, and throughout the year they help to set up fundraising events to help with the cost of their work. This year I've given one of the Sonnets shots (Elgol and the Cuillins, Skye) to raise funds for the organisation as part of a Charity Auction at Montgomery's Cafe, Radnor Street in Glasgow. The exhibition/auction will have some work by some of Glasgows well known artists. Of these Jenny Soep, the Live music illustrator is exhibiting, who is one of my current favourites.

From the Montgomery's Cafe site:A.S.K. YorkhillA.S.K. Yorkhill is a silent art auction on behalf of Yorkhill Childrens Foundation. Local acclaimed artists have donated their work to be exhibited for auction from February 2nd to March 21st when, at the final night party, there will be a live auction for the art and a raffle with great prizes donated by local businesses! Stop by Montgomery's to check out the art and make a bid!

Reviewing Harry Horse, The Paper Cinema and Little Bulb Theatre, plus - Scotland's First Day of Spring...

'Special Affects: Dancing Lights, Emotion and Gore'
Here lies my latest submission. It's a little different to the 'live music/live arts event' documentary drawings, since it's drawn from imagination and still stuff, but hey ho, it's actually something I've always done and enjoy, like sneaking chocolate: I've just been keeping it in the closet.
The review is written about 2 recent productions at the Arches - Crocosmia by Little Bulb Theatre, and Night Flyer by the Paper Cinema and Kora, plus Tam Dean Burn's 'Year of the Horse at the Tron.
I believe it might just be a very good time to be an illustrator such as me. Possibly going to be one of the toughest years ahead, but the way it's gone already, I am suspiciously optimistic.

I forgot to mention, I'll be drawing David Byrne when he plays Glasgow at the end of the month - Wooooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooo! Okay, that's enough now. Woooooooooooooohooooooooooooo!! Seriously, pack it in... Woooooooooooooooooooooo..!
