Scotland Visit -

Quality quality gig tonight - Bonny Prince Billy. Pictures to come, along with drawings of RM Hubbert's wonderful album launch gig at Stereo on Friday supported by the right rivetingly off the wall 'Tattie Toes', plus some drawings of an alternatively and equally fascinating scientific music, poetry and art night at Inspace with Unravel (Aidan Moffat, Found as well as Chris Meade) last Thursday evening in Edinburgh.

Bonnie Prince Billy plays The Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow as part of Celtic Connections, and courtesy of the lovely Nuala Kennedy who got him over here.

Had a lovely rehearsal on Friday with Jer Reid and Monnica Deioanni for our trio piece at Sound Thought, The Arches. Tomorrow having a meeting about the fourth International Women's Day event I'm involved in, plus meeting with the rather fantabulous digital/animatory whizzkid Dave Sapien too for some projected digital drawing chat. All looking real good, enough to get rather excited about.

Aidan Moffat reads as part of the Unravel Installation created by him and the Found art collective with Simon Kirby

Words by Aidan Moffat, members of the art collective Found with Simon Kirby, members of the Electric Bookshop and Chris Meade of ifbook and bookfutures. Very exciting programme/residency with talks on each Thursday up until mid February. Well worth getting a ticket if you can. Inspace is a very exciting multimedia gallery based within Edinburgh university, and they've housed Found's wonderful Bafta award winning Cybraphon project there too.  You can see Cybraphon if you manage the Unravel expo before it finishes.
It's been a busy five days my friends, where I also managed to get my self - assessment/tax shenanigans dealt with, plus got a lovely 24 hours back with my Nana, my Folks, MacDuff the dog and Conan the cat. A good few pictures to upload so look again very very soon. Soon as I get back to my lovely Stockholm tomorrow night and crank up the Scanner. xx

Burnt Island Album Launch, Aidan Moffat, The Second Hand Marching Band, plus a few choice words from 'Wake the President'

Paper Drawing - Benni Hemm Hemm, Peter, Liam and Andrew of The Second Hand Marching Band

Nice night with great folk and good music. Burnt Island are developing some exciting new textures, sounding better than ever. Aidan, hungover or perhaps ill? was his usual dark and grumpily entertaining self. So much love in the audience for that mighty talented grumpy git -after his 'valentine song' commenting that maybe he's just jealous since 'nobody loves him', a girl behind me whispered to her friend 'But I love you'.

The Second Hand Marching Band are great, they really are, and I always wish they played for longer. Beautiful and intriguing looking bunch of characters they are too. One day I'll get them all...

Low points - The lights could have been dimmer and the audience was great but they could have ventured closer to the stage. The golden haired twin brothers Bjorn and Erik Sandberg from Wake the President were having a right good flavourful shouting match during the first and last set, one of them clearly more intoxicated than the other. F**king rude, but definitely entertaining.

Warm Up, Lord Cut Glass

Warm Up, Adrian Crowley

Awesome, brilliant, great, fun. The Phantom Band were blistering. Stevie Jones was on fire with Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat. Emma Pollock was lovely, liking her new stuff. Zoey Van Goey were great and affable as expected. Lord Cut Glass kicked ass - the song Look After Your Wife with vocals by Kim Moore was exhilerating! Unwinding Hours were class, and looking forward to seeing them again at their first headline show - 5th of March, Stereo -Look it up. First up was Adrian Crowley who opened the show with a sweet set, but all in all 7 quality acts with only about 20-30 minutes each. So bear that in mind when you check out the pics.

Ballads of the Book - Pictures

What a fantastic day this was! Pity on those who didn't make it into a sell out gig. It really was a feast for all the senses. Great Accoustic, Electric, Readings, DJ's, atmosphere and art?!
Highlights?
Aidan Moffat's poetry and onstage performance is always provocative, darkly humerous and brilliant. He's also a great musician and DJ. And he did the design work for the Ballads album. Is there no end to this man's talent? Think I'll write to him and tell him he's not allowed any more.
Burnt Island, Karine Polwart and Alasdair Roberts performed some stunning music/songs. Foxface were even better than the last time I saw them - D.John is also another man with too much talent. James Yorkston was great with his fellow musicians on stage. I like his gigs but he's a difficult personality to get to know. Emma Pollock was great. Norman Blake sucked - only 2 songs! Didn't give me any time to get right in to what his music is/was - still none the wiser. Missed Sons and Daughters, and King Creosote, but I'm saving up to manufacture another me, so that next time I can indeed be in two places at once!
If anyone wants a visual souvenir/print from £18, mail me at info@jennysoep.com and grab a bargain while I'm cheap enough! Some Originals still left for sale as well if you're lucky enough to get them before they're sold out!
