Awesome night.

Yep. Tonight was a great night all in all. And I survived not having my mobile - the wonders of the internet and being prepared!

Tonight it really felt like a great experience that was shared through the music, the poetry, the drawing, the audience's drawing, the projected visuals, the people, the listeners, the observers, the musicians, the poet, the organisers, the venue...

It felt really good. Going to upload folk's 'drawing page' soon as. Hope you all enjoyed it - comments most welcome! Thanks to everyone who came and joined in. xx

Just Goes To Show...

RM Hubbert, (who will be supporting Aidan Moffat & The Best Ofs, Friday 08th May, Stereo.)

The rather splendid Mr Alan Bissett (My Nana thinks he's lovely!)

What a night. I've had 12 hours of sleep since Saturday, I didn't sleep last night but chose to work in my Dad's office designing, printing, emailing, listening to music until 7 this morning, then had breakfast, went to get the bus to the train station and just before it came around the corner to get me, I realised I'd left my mobile in Dad's office. Bugger, I thought. Once I got to Taynuilt, I managed to phone home and ask if the folks could bring it down with them to my expo launch at Mono tonight. That sorted I got on the train and went into a coma, being shaken awake by the ticket man, then again by some random stranger to let me know I was now in Glasgow.

On the way home, on the infamous no. 75 to Castlemilk, I realised I did not have my house keys.

Of all the days to be without my mobile and my keys and the ability to sort logistics out for tonight. I tell ya, everything was opposing the success of tonight, and DAMMIT IF TONIGHT JUST DIDN'T GO AMAZINGLY!!! Which, it did. I sold a picture for a start!!! Wooohooooo!
No red dots available so I had to sketch up my own. Darn, I forgot to take photos. Well, there were a few folk there doing just that, and most folk who were simply just enjoying the show!

My biggest thanks to the following people for making it all happen:
Hinterland for publicity and Red Bull alcoholic drinks (although I never managed to get one myself!); Stephen McSeveney and Mono for providing the venue, lighting, faith and funding too!! The wonderful AGKC, my 'Giclee Printers Par Excellence', who designed and printed the brochures for the expo plus a free framed print of the inimitable Arab Strap; Picture Framers in Shawlands for providing free mounts cut beautifully for most of the pictures in the exhibition, plus the artists who took part themselves - the writer Alan Bissett for his right raving captivating self -and for opening the show - the musician RM Hubbert for his beautiful music, and Garry Whitton for nipping through from Dundee to exert his masterful animatory/filming/VJ-ing magic.

Special thanks also to Charlotte Rodenstedt for designing my beautiful Sigur Ros Flyer, the lovely person who put up posters for me - you know who you are! My wonderful family , Nana!! and Shauna Cameron, who travelled down from Oban to a) give me my mobile phone back and b) to give me support!! An artist needs her groupies y'all!!

Last but not least, special mention to Lorraine for doing some general housekeeping duties - wiping down surfaces, brushing up rubbish, as well as the epic task of putting all the profiles under their respective pictures. You did a grand job lass!! I most certainly owe you one!!

Right, I think it's bed-time finally. It's 01.20 and I'm about to go through my comments book. Apparently my Dad has left a stormer of a comment so looking forward to that.

Cheers to everyone who came down for the expo, was really well attended, and everyone was very well behaved too!! Hope you enjoyed the show as much as I did - drawings to be posted tres soon!! xxxx

Oban Open Mic Night 20 Sept 07, The Best Yet

This is the hottest night in Oban, I'm not kidding, the line up get's better everytime.

Here's Matt Goodwin, aka 1/2 MT, who sounds like he's been smoking and drinking and rock and rolling for about 20 years more than his age - at 22 he's an old timer in a young Dude's body, while making sweet music with his accoustic. Only one Oban Mic Night left before he heads off around the world then back to the U.S of A. More's the pity.

Here's Pod, Kim and a random chappie. Kim is tres sexy on the old Sax, and Pod plays like he's been living the Blues a lot longer than Matt, though apparently has only been playing his steel guitar for a couple of years, which I assume is WAY less than Yankee Boy.

Great set by Lana, Jack, Chaz and James. Lana is the most stunning singer to hit Oban just now, and is definitely someone to watch out for.

The Lemmings - More switched on this time; great set again. Check out their myspacE.com/savethoselemmings.

The Lemmings' Lead guitarist Ben played a fantastic LapTapping tune. Has to be seen to be believed. Another valuable musician to watch out for. Unfortunately Chunks were on beforehand playing a too short set which meant that my drawing was not as finished as it could have been. Made use of this though to add a bit of alternative texture in the background of Ben's Picture. See what you think!

So that's that for now. Unfortunately I didn't get to draw the first couple of acts including Claroline/Clarolynn? with her Zen guitar. Another great 'import' from the U.S.A.

So if you want to get a taste of what they're like, guess you'll just have to keep your ear to the ground for the next open mic night - The Waterfront restaurant/bar should be up to date with it's clandestine scheduling...

Oban Mike Night

I swear this night is getting bigger and better. Perhaps soon, Oban will be known as the place to be regarding up and coming original musicians? I hope so. A gateway not just to the isles, but to creativity in general. Louis and Stevo should be the proud daddios of this great event which takes place every month at The Waterfront bar in Oban. Last night saw Chunks, The Lemmings, Cameron, Rona and John, Scott Douglas and Mr Matt Goodwin aka '1/2 MT'all the way from the U S of A play some great sets. Twas a most splendid night. It actually really rocked!

My good pal Garry the animator did a great job as VJ, and setting up the Animation/Drawing Time Lapse system with all his super techno/creative know how, and I just sat back, had a large glass of the Red Stuff, and drew my pants off. Well, not quite. But definitely, I don't think wearing a skirt is practical when you've got to insert yourserlf into small spaces near the stage. All quite different, and all with their own voice. I think Cameron, Rona and John perhaps need a little more time with each other, but individually all were sounding good. Rona's definitely a star in waiting!

So here's the pics from the last 3 Open Mike nights that I've drawn. See what you think. It includes pictures from the last two including the Waterfalls, Kim on saxophone, Washington Irving, the ever popular K9 Kev, and I'm sure I've forgotten someone. Ah yes, The Open Plan who I actually drew at the ever busy James Gray's Musicworks Studios.

If you check their myspaces out you can listen to some of their music. Some might need updating with new music, but you'll get a good feel. You can also see the animation that Garry made of my drawings for the Dunstaffnage Music Festival at the following 2 links.
